Giants
The sound of the magnificent voices coming from my red transistor radio seem to be growing fainter… it seems like every week brings news of another loss and a reminder that our mortality draws ever near… Losing Sylvester Stewart and Brian Wilson days apart brought back so many musical memories… memories of joy, beauty and sadness and how they could all be wrapped up in a 3 minute pop song…
Lemon Mist
I often like to talk about how music can be a strong memory trigger (see above)…how hearing a song can instantly transport one to a very specific place & time in one’s life. I was recently going through my Mother’s recipe box and came across her hand written recipe for her Mother’s “Lemon Mist”, my absolute favourite dessert growing up… I attempted to make this treat for a family gathering on what would have been Mom’s 100th birthday on June 2nd… and although I wasn’t able to successfully beat the egg whites as “stiff” as I would have liked the taste of my attempt took me right back to special family occasions from my boyhood, and to the love that Mom put into creating special dishes for her family.
